Excel found unreadable content

I received this message while opening spreadsheet I had been working on, in
Excel 2003. When I looked at the data, most of it was intact, but several
cells had their information deleted. I was able to restore the data from
backups, but I'm owrried that I might encounter the same problem. Does anyone
have suggestions for how to avoid this coming up, or how I might restore the
data if I don't have it backed up?

Maybe you can try some Excel file recovery tools, such as Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel file.
