For some time now I have been getting the error "unable to read file" as soon
as I start up Excel. The error appears twice before Excel opens normally.
I am starting up Excel by opening it directly from the Programs menu, and
not by selecting a particular spreadsheet to open, which automatically
creates the default spreadsheet "Book1". If I select a spreadsheet to open
Excel with, I do not get this error.
I looked everywhere online for a fix, installed service packs, ran Excel
utilities, etc. etc. etc. but nothing worked until I found a file in my
XLSTART folder called "prf23F1.tmp". As soon as I deleted this file, Excel
started with no errors. I thought I would pass this on in case anyone else
has a similar problem.
