I have looked high and low for a similar problem to no avail. I am using
Microsoft Office 2003 and my problem is with Excel (2003). The problem
arises if I want to edit a Macro in Excel - the minute I go to edit,
everything in Excel is shut down.. do error message, nada.. just evaporates.
Prior to when this originally happened (about a month ago), everything has
worked like a charm. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the same happen if you Alt+F11 to the VB editor?

First thing I would try would be Help > Detect and Repair

Bill - Many thanks for your suggestions. I did try both the Detect and
Repair to no avail and the Alt+F11 and neither seem to have an effect. The
minute I try to edit a Macro in my Personal Macro, Excel and all files that
were open disappear!

Still puzzled!

So, if you record a macro into a new workbook and go to edit that macro
Excel stays put - it's only your PERSONAL.XLS that is causing the
problem?

If not, it sounds like a problem with the VB editor.
- first, in the VB editor go to Add-Ins > Add-In Manager and remove
the ticks on Loaded for each installed add-in: does that change the
behaviour?

If it is only PERSONAL.XLS with the problem, it sounds like a problem
with PERSONAL.XLS

I would first try moving your PERSONAL.XLS from XLSTART to another
directory and rename it.

Then try recording a macro into your personal macro workbook (which
will create a new one) and see if you can edit that.

If so, copy the macros you need from the old one to the new one and
delete the old one.
