I hope someone out there can help me with this one since I'm stumped!
I have an Excel 2003 form that I created that contains a number of
checkboxes that users select to choose options they want in a package.
These have been working fine until just recently. Now, when my Excel
worksheet loads, I can see an outline of where each Checkbox & it's label
should be and a red X flashes briefly and then they all disappear --
basically, it looks like they fail to load.
By clicking around, sometimes I can "catch" one of the checkboxes and it
will display, until I move out of the field, then it disappears again. If I
look at the linked fields for the checkboxes, the correct state data displays
and they show up on lists of controls -- so they seem to still be there, only
I can't see or use them!
This same behavior appears in new worksheets as well as existing ones and
occurs with text boxes, button boxes, and check boxes (basically anything you
might add from the Controls Toolbar).
When I go to add a new control to a worksheet, I get a small "insertion
point" which looks like 4 little circles in a small square (the outline you
get if you select an object) but there is nothing in the square (it is
empty). I get the exact same sized and shaped "marker" regardless of type of
control I enter. If I grab one of the corners, I can resize the marker, but
it is still empty. And if I click anywhere off the marker, it disappears
(although I can reselect it if I get lucky and hit on one of it's borders).
This behavior started occuring after I upgraded from Norton 2003 to 2005 --
so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I don't think I've run
any other updates recently, so I'm not sure what is going on. I haven't
looked at the forms with checkboxes for a little while, either, so I'm not
even sure this change started when I installed Norton, but it's the last
thing I've done and it hasn't worked since I did that.
I've tried uninstalling Norton, doing a system restore to before when I
installed Norton, uninstalling and reinstalling MS Office Pro, checking every
option and setting I can find, and nothing seems to fix the problem.
I can't add any controls or use the controls that are in existing forms.
Can anyone help?
