We have recently experienced the problem with Excel
closing when a user tries to print. This problem does
not affect every Excel file, nor does it affect every
user.
What happens is, the user can open these select files,
manipulate them, save them, etc., but when they try to
print (or print preview), Excel closes. This happens
both on a local copy of Excel and within a Citrix
enviornment.
Some users can print these files on certain printers
only. For example, one user has her Excel crash when she
tries to print the file to an HP Color Laserjet 4500, but
when she selects an LJ 4000 or her local DeskJet color
printer, the file prints.
The only fix we have so far is to create a new workbook,
copy the data from the original book to the new one
(using the highlight all data, copy, paste method.
Copying the sheet to another file does not work), and the
new file has no problems printing. While this is good
for smaller files, we have some multi-sheet workbooks
with macros and links to other files that are not going
to be easy to recreate.
If anybody has any other solutions to this problem,
please email me at (e-mail address removed) or post
the solution here. Thank you.
