Excel charts inserted into Powerpoint presentation - editing & clo

I use Excel 2003. When I insert an excel chart into my powerpoint
presentation and then edit the chart and close it - the gridlines appear
(they were not there originally). How do I close the excel chart without
having the gray lines appear? My excel chart already has the "gridlines"
option turned off. These lines are the light gray lines - I guess not
technically gridlines but not sure what else to call them.

Actually a speadsheet and I was incorrect - I didn't have gridlines turned
off. But I have another problem - I am getting a line around the "print
area" I've set in Excel showing up in Powerpoint. Formatting object doesn't
take it away....

Is this a chart (like a graph) or a spreadsheet (like data cells)?
