Excel Charts in PPT 2003 and 2007 not working correctly

I have loaded the Office 2007 beta but elected to keep the 2003 versions. I
just noticed that when I open a PPT (created previously with PPT 2003) with
excel charts in PPT 2003 and adjust a number, I lose the scale and get a
meaningless scale such as "-336" repeated for the whole scale. Also numbers
copied from Excel 2003 that are formatted with commas such as "2,023,025" are
only recognised as text.

Sometimes when I try to edit the numbers by doubleclicking on the Chart it
opens PPT 2007 and then I lose the Chart

If I open the PPT presentation in PPT 2007 I start having formatting
problems with the tables.

Has anyone else had similar problems with Excel charts in PPT 2003 or 2007
after installing the beta. I have XP Pro SP2 and have replicated the problem
on a Sony VAIO and a Fujitsu P1510.
 
Run Office Diagnostics (Start, All Programs, Microsoft Office, Microsoft
Office Tools) and see if you still have the same problem afterwards.

I've seen the oddity with chart axis labels changing to numbers in Word.
Apparently this has been fixed for Beta 2 Technical Refresh. I imagine it's
the same bug you're seeing.

I'd use the "Send a Smile" option to report it, though, and also to report
the numbers with commas being recognized only as text. You should report the
problems with tables, too. I think we shouldn't have significant formatting
issues when opening older files in the new version.

Do you need a link to the Send a Smile tool?

I'm pretty sure that somewhere on the download site MS mentions that this won't
be reliable. Heck, it's beta software. Nothing's reliable. They do warn
against using it on a "production" computer (translated from the MSpeak, that
means "If you intend to use the computer for real work, don't install the beta
preview")

Did you also install MSGraph? As I recall, it's an optional install item but
might be needed to edit graphs created in earlier versions of Office.

Or "if you use it for real work (which we hope you will because then you
really find the bugs) don't come screaming for help when something
breaks" ;)
But yeah, you shouldn't be using it on a production computer (I have
been since November and got burnt already...)

If you create an MSgraph chart in PPT 2003 and then open the file in PPT
2007, the chart should be upgraded to a PPT 2007 chart and hence open in
Excel 2007.
The problem with the side-by-side install is that sometimes Office gets
confused which Excel to use by default. I honestly have no idea what to
expect when you open a file in ppt 2007, but Office ends up using Excel
2003. Office Diagnostics generally sorts out the issue and makes 2007
the default for everything (for word only until you open 2003 again). So
if the OP can still repro the issue after running office diagnostics,
then it's prob. the issue Echo mentioned.
