Hi
I am trying to create a large cell in Excel so that people can type
many paragraphs of information. I have done this by merging a number
of cells together in a vertical orientation. I am running into a
problem where at a certain point the text is not appearing unless you
are in cell edit mode. Hard returns seem to make the text appear.
Can anyone give me some thoughts as to what is going on and how I
might work around it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Why not just insert a text box, or use a comment and show comments. Merged cells tend to cause
more problems than they ever fix.

Excel's help says that only about 1000 characters will be shown in a cell (all
will appear in the formula bar, though).

But if you add some alt-enters, xl seems to forgive you and shows more.

I think that the workaround is either add the alt-enters, split your data into
multiple cells, or use a different technique (textbox or embedded word
document??)
