Excel Cell Data Entry

I recently installed the tech refresh to B2, and now whenever I try to put
something in a cell, even in a new Excel sheet, only one character can be
entered. For example, if I enter a B it displays in the cell, then if I
enter an X, the B is replaced by the X. I am running XP SP2. Have no
problem with Word 2007 and Outlook 2007 Betas. Any help or suggestions will
be appreciated. Also, I can not get Excel Options to run, sends error report
to MS. Thanks, John

I am having exactly the same issue. I was searching this database to learn a
solution. I'll be watching for answers. I just thought you'd like to know you
have some company, such that it is.

Thanks for the reply. I am about to resolve myself to simply wait until the
commercial release. Surely MS will have fixed whatever it is. I'm running on
a four year old Dell P4 with only 256mb memory. Don't ask me how I am able
to run all this new stuff, but it did take some messing around with virtual
memory ;=). Hope to buy a new Dell after the first of the year, and will
perhaps wait until Vista comes out, or, who knows, may take advantage of
lower priced machines and get one with more memory and a little faster.

Thanks again for letting me know I am not alone. John

I can duplicate that problem exactly down to the Options button not working.
It's driving me crazy. I have actually deleted reg keys and replaced all
files manually. Nothing helps.

Any advice for this would be of great help!

You are very correct that it's not the hardware. Really sorry to hear that a
remove and reinstall didn't work. . . that must tell me something, just not
sure what right now.

As for your Norton, it was a simple checkbox that would have solved your
problem. . .took me a day or two to find that one. The new format is seen by
Norton as an aborition of office file format. You just have to tell it not to
protect office docs and you're on the road.

I'm not going to give up on this. I'll let you know if I find anything

Un-installing and re-installing, particularly of a beta will generally not
remove it. I would un-install and then follow the beta removal instructions
on MSDN (this is instruction for removing prior to installing RTM, but it
should remove every remnant)

Just try to copy the following files from a working installation:

PPINTL.DLL
XLLEX.DLL
XLINTL32.DLL

(Folder: ...\Microsoft Office\Office12\1031)

Don't ask me how and why these files got modified. In my case the
reasen could be the installation of the PDF/XPS addin that does work on
the final release only.

Well done, where did this data come from? There was a version of the
pdf/xps add-in that worked with the beta.

Are you saying that when you have the beta and download the RTM version of
the add-in the issue occurs?

I downloaded the addin from the microsoft download server. If you enter
the download area from the german micrsoft site
(http://www.microsoft.de) there is only one addin (which is the one
that does not work with the beta release of Office 2007).
The addin that does work with the beta release will only appear when I
manually change the search criteria in order to include english
language versions.

Now I figured out how to reproduce the problem:

1. Install Office Beta (and do NOT reboot)
2. Install Office BTR2
3. Install PDF/XPS Addin
4. Reboot

I used a clean PC and the german laguage version of Office 2007
