Excel auto-format

Hello, In several of my columns I need to indicate a
range like 1-5, but when I type in 1-5 the program
automatically changes it to 5-Jan as a date. How can I
disable this please? Thank you.

Either select and format the columns as Text
(via Format > Cells > Number tab > Text > OK)

or precede the cell input with an apostrophe (')
