I was using excel 97 on my old computer and have
purchased new one with Windows XP. When i try to install
my Excel 97 software, I get a message " Set up has
checked your harddrive and cannot find any of the
qualifying products listed on the Excel Box" Where do I
go from here ???? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Sylvia;
You get that message when you attempt to install an upgrade product
without having the qualifying product already.

You either need an earlier version to prove you qualify or you need to
buy the full version.

You apparently have an upgrade version of Excel 97, which requires that you
can prove you have a copy of a "qualifying product". Such a product could be
an earlier version of Excel, or perhaps another Microsoft Office product.
You provide the proof by inserting the program disk for that earlier product
when indicated. If you do not have an earlier product, you will not be able
to install Excel 97.

And if you don't have a qualifying product, how did you install Excel 97 on
your old computer?

Return your "upgrade version" and purchase a "full version".

point it to the CD rom drive you're installing from. Once
it sees itself it should upgrade.

That would not work. The setup program is looking for an earlier version,
not the same version.

Sometimes, Carey, I wonder why on earth you were ever awarded an MVPship
when you come out with replies like this! How on earth can she return
something that's eight years old?! Learn to *READ* before replying!

Just as others wonder, Cerridwen, why on earth you think you
have anything useful to say? You are nearly always just out
here to spew your crap around. Why don't you just shut up
and go lurk until you learn some interpersonal skills and
how to give useful information?
I notice the MVPs, at least all the current ones, are
reasonable, even with the likes of you; I'm not bound by any
such silliness, flames don't bother me, and I always have
