Hi,
I'm using excel 97 at work, every now and then there is one particular file
which seems to crash excel each time we try to open it. Once I've opened
excel and then try to open the file, I receive a warning message relating to
the file containing Macros (I don't actually think that the file contains any
macros), I enable them anyway so I can proceed, and then I receive an error:
Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience.
The error details the AppName: excel.exe, AppVer: 8.0.1.5618,
ModName:excel.exe, ModVer: 8.0.1.5618, Offset: 0024c8a3
Some other strange things with this file. This file is used and updated
each month, so we build on it throughout the year. We copy the previous
months file in the current months directory. If I open the previous months
file prior to open the current months file (the current months file is the
one which causes the error above) it opens no problems. However if I open
the current months without opening the prior months file first I get the
error above. Also, the files from one month to another are not linked,
current month files do not contain any links/formulas to prior months files.
Another strange thing, when I do open the prior months file and the current
months file, If I don't do anything, excel seems to think that there are
changes which need to be saved and prompts to me to save the changes when I
close excel.
Thanks.
Simon
