A user is experiencing problems when attempting to copy
and paste cells into a excel (Office 2K) worksheet." Excel
has generated errors and will be closed by windows" The
cells contain no formulas and are just simple dates. He
then loses all work since he last saved. Office has been
removed and reinstalled.
He is an experienced excel user and hasn't experienced
this problem before.

I would appreciate any help

Thank you
Rita

I guess no one provides guidelines for how to diagnose this sort of problem.

First, see if the user can repeat the problem on other machines. If so, then how
large is the data being copied? What other standard software, foreground
applications and background services, is usually running while the user uses
Excel?

If not, then the problem is specific to the user's own machine. Is the user
running any other foreground software (i.e., stuff with entries in the taskbar
or the task tray) when this happens? What services are usually running on the
user's machine? For that matter, how large is the data being copied? Is Outlook
journalling (or whatever it's called) enabled? If so, disable it.

Have you run hardware diagnostics on the user's machine to ensure that there are
no flaky sectors on the user's harddisk and no problems with the user's memory
chips?
