Hi all

I have the problem where whenever a user loads excel 2000 (or 2002/XP)
it loads other files, presumably recent files the user has been working on.

This happens on both the 9x clients and the XP clients (as far as I know).

I have the network "locked down" and have customised the profiles that a
particular user uses.

Is there some registry setting to prevent this from happening ? as its
driving the
users crazy, and of course, they're driving me crazy asking me to sort it
out.

The domain is a 2003 domain @ 2000 native functionality btw

Many thanks to anyone that can help.

Excel will try to open any files it finds in either the XLSTART folder or
"Alternate startup file location" or "at startup, open files in". This could
be the source of your problem.

First thing I would try is to start Excel in Safe Mode so you bypass any
XLSTART folder or "Alternate startup file location" if you have one entered.

Enter this at Start>Run(your path may differ) to start in Safe Mode

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" /s

Your path may differ.

Then I would check the Tools>Options>General and delete any path in "Alternate
startup file location".

I would move any files from the Office\XLSTART folder that aren't
Personal.xls, Book.xlt or Sheet.xlt.

Hi Gord

Thanks for the response - solved it.

Because of the new profiles I'd given user groups, I'd forgot to add the
appropriate Application Data
to do with Office. Put that in and wham! straight into Excel with no
errors/other files loading except the
obvious default book template.

Many thanks for your suggestions,
Regards

Happy to help.

Thanks for the feedback. Always nice to know what works or doesn't work.

Helps the googlers when they have a similar problem.
