I have a user who uses a lot of array formulas. He called me today saying that he needed to save an .xlsm file as an .xls file but got the message:
"Some worksheets contain more array formulas that refer to other worksheets than are supported by the selected file format. Some of these array formulas will not be saved and will be converted to #VALUE! errors."
When saved down, approximately 500 entries were converted to =#VALUE!. I then opened the saved-down version in Excel 2003, copied down the formulas from the row above those containing the errors, and again saved the file. No errors were reported by Excel 2003.
I can reopen the saved workbook in Excel 2007, resave it as an .xls file and get the same message.
The engineer who is using this file says he's used larger files with this structure in Excel 2003 for a long time, and has never had a problem. Since I had no problem resaving the file in Excel 2003 after readding the formulas, I tend to believe him.
Any idea what's going on here?
