Excel 2007 - "File error: data may have been lost"

I am working in Excel 2007, and I'm recieving the following message upon
opening a file, "File error: data may have been lost". The file opens, but
some formulas have been wiped out and "=#N/A" appears in their place. The
affected formulas use the WORKDAY function.

I saw a couple of related postings in Nov. and Jan., but it doesn't look
like it was resolved. Also, there appear to be similar issues with earlier
versions of Excel, to which Microsoft appears be working on it.

Is Microsoft aware of this issue? Are they working on a resolution?

Hi,

You may try Advanced Excel Repair at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/
This tool is rather useful in salvaging damaged Excel xls files.

Alan-
You've already suggested that when I posted this issue as a question. In
fact, I've seen you pushing this "solution" to a number of posts. Are you
affiliated with the company that makes it?

I can fix the file myself without the help of some expensive software
program. I'd like for Microsoft to be aware of, and fix the issue that is
causing the problem in the first place. It has been reported previously on
these boards, so it's not an isolated incidence of a corrupt file.

He is. Any excel question always has his spam tagged to it.

Oh slap! :)

I had some problems with Office recently, namely Word and Excel. Ended
up going into Excel and went to tools, to options, general tab and
UNCHECK ignore other applications. I later removed Acrobat and
installed Foxit reader, which is a free pdf reader (though they have a
pay version too). Not associated with any of the above.

Hi, I have the same problem as below. When I open a macro enabled workbook
in Excel 2007, whereever the XIFF function is used or a macro is used, I get
"#N/A" or #NAME. When I start up the workbook, I get file error: data may
have been lost. Is Microsoft aware of this??

There was a fix posted (KB858133) that seems to address this but that
doesn't seem to resolve the issue.
