I have a number of files which were created in Excel 2003 (and have only been
modified in Excel 2003).

I have now switched to Excel 2007 and when I am saving I am gettin a number
of fidelity issues arising from the compatability checker.

As I have not modified the files in Excel 2007 I know that I am not using
functionality that is not supported by 2003, so I am wondering if either:

a. It is OK to ignore the compatibility issues that it is raising
or
b. If it means that the spreadsheets were never working correctly in 2003
and it is only now being picked up by the compatability checker.

An example of the messages that I am receiving is:

"Some formulas in this workbook are linked to other workbooks that are
closed. When these formulas are recalculated in earlier versions of Excel
without opening the linked workbooks, characters beyond the 255-character
limit cannot be returned."

I had thought that these were linking fine in 2003 when I was using it - but
am now wondering if they were not previously working, or if this message is
just flagging up that there MIGHT be an issue IF any of the cells go over
this length.

Any ideas/explanations would be welcomed!

Thanks.

Liz.

its tru Excel 2003 linking formula canot get texts more that 255 long in
other closed workbook. this is limit of that version but sence you say you
have no link problem then you must not have any these. if you did have some
then they getting cut off
