Excel 2007 Beta files won't open in 2003

It just shows up as a bunch of messed up character, and I've installed the
2007 file conversion opener thing for 2003 and tried. Still doesn't open...

Beta files are not compatible with the RTM file compatibility add-in. You
will need to open them again in beta and save out as 97-2003. The file
format was not totally nailed until RTM

ummmmmmmm... i don't have 2007 beta accessible to me anymore. atleast the
installer, that could be a problem... is there anywhere i can still download
it, i can't find where i downloaded it, I think i still have the key stored,
in my e-mail account.

I suspect, as I think about it, that the beta has time expired
anyway...maybe someone else can confirm???

Everytime I participate in a Microsoft Beta, I always get burned, this is the
last time I participate in a Beta and i'm a soon to be developer just a CS
student right now... It wasn't even intensionally saved as 2007 format. I had
to do some work on an old excel sheet that holds some important contact
information. clicked save... must have replaced and now i'm screwed... I want
to call and talk to someone at MS but i don't want to pay some crazy $249
charge!? what's the deal with that, do i get redirected to phone line made
out of gold?

It does bite when it happens but two things for sure

1) You should never enter betas and use the software for real mission
critical work on live files
2) If you simply open a file created in a version pre-xl2007, then Excel,
since DF4 (Alpha) will open in compatibility mode. In this mode Excel will
automatically save back to a 97-2003 file, so the file has to be explicitly
converted, using save as...

Sorry it appears to have worked out like this for you, but I'm only a
messenger, not connected to MS

You are right, but i don't remember saving as... I'm trying to find back up
of it. thanks for all you're help. I just wish they would have had a
convertor for the beta versions or atleast a way to convert...

Wasn't there a 2003 converter during the Beta trial? I am sure I used
it on an Office 2000 machine. If I'm not going mad, and that is the
case, does anyone still have a copy? I did a silly much like the OP.
