I am a diabetic and I use Excell to track my blood sugars on a monthly basis,
rolling to the totals to another sheet. Each month's sheet has a column for
breakfast, lunch, and evening blood sugars as well as a graph showing the
monthly sugar levels in a graphic format based on the contents of each sugar
column.

At the beginning of each month, I copy the previous month's sheet into the
workbook as a new sheet and rename it. In Excel XP, this resets all of the
information in the graphics object in the new sheet to the new sheets name
and it retains the column references for the graph. As soon as I enter data
for the current month, the graphic adjusts properly.

In Excel 2007, the copy function keeps the references in the graphics object
tied to the previous months sheet name. When I try to edit the data sources
in the graphics object to use the new month's sheet, all of the information
concerning the sources in the sheet vanish and I cannot re-establish these
references. This is not good!

Hello:

How do you copy the sheet? If you just use copy and paste you are getting
same result as you would get Excel 2003. The key to doing what you want is
to use "Move or Copy sheet" from the Edit menu. I suspect that Excel 2007
would have the same function buried somewhere. Do a search in help.
I have not yet installed beta so I can't check directly.

Pieter,
I performed this using a right click on the sheet I want and copy or move
from the pop-up menu. From this menu, I select "Create a copy" and specify
where I want the new sheet inserted. This functionality does appear to work.

On the other hand, the real problem is the next two statements in my
original posting. In Excel XP, when you re-name a sheet, all of the internal
references to the original sheet name are automatically changed. This
includes formulae statements in the sheet as well as the references in any
embedded object where the sheet name is retained. This behavior does not
occur in the 2007 Beta.

The other problem is that editing of the data sources in the embedded
graphics object do not get saved as they are altered! I altered the sheet
names to match the new sheet name and closed the dialogue box. At that
point, all of the statements related to the graphics object are CLEARED in
the edit box. From this point on, you cannot add new statements in this
graphics object that would re-establish the graphic, nor is there anything
left that is editable.

I am sure not reporting a problem with the copy function. It is the other
functions that really are not working properly per the history of the product
line! I have only been using this product over 20 years going back to the
original DOS versions.
