Excel 2003 SP1 - Opening Large Spreadsheets

After installing SP1 I have started getting files that I
save but cannot open. I have been using large (68MB)
files for months but now (since installing SP1) sometimes
I cannot reopen them. The problem seems to be worse when
resaving back to the old file name and the Hibernating.
I get some read access errors that keep the files from
opening. The files themselves are not bad but they seem
to be internally corrupt since I can copy them to other
drives without problems but they are still corrupt and
will not open. Is there a SP1A out there?

I worked with Microsoft on this and they were able to recreate the problem
but offered no help other than to tell me not to use large files in Excel!

The root problem turned out to be clicking on a large (anything over 35 MB)
file to launch Excel. This caused the file to be corrupt when it was saved
and prevented Excel itself from closing properly (it would hang forever). If
Excel was launched first and then the large file was opened within Excel
everthing worked fine!

The problem went away when I reinstalled Office 2003 without SP1.

Microsoft has not made a commitment to fix this obvious bug. They just
suggested that I stop using their product.
