This problem is a little strange.

We do a lot of importing of data in to excel. Having an
issue where sometimes after we import data from a TXT file
and then attempt to save the now imported data as a new
Excel file, Excel locks up and needs to have Task Manager
do an end task on it.

Now if you do the same thing import the data, but attempt
to save the file as a CSV file, no problem, it save right
away.

Any ideas? TIA

Some more information on this problem.

If you copy and paste the text file into excel and then
save, no problem, it only seems to fail to save (and locks
up excel) when you import the text file. The text file is
about a meg in size.

TIA

CSV is a 'native' file for XL, so I suspect it finds it easier to save it.
I would ask a few more questions

1) Are any of the fields exceptionally long?
2) Are there any 'non standard' characters?
3) Have you tried all versions of a text file (Tab, space delimited, etc)?
4) Have you tried different versions of XL?

Nick

1) Yes some of the fields are VERY long

2) Nope all regular alpha numeric

3) No, but I will do that!

4) Unfortunately we are a pure XP XL shop :-)

Thanks for the pointers

If you exclude the long fields does it still hang?
