Excel 2000 keeps crashing

I have a group of cells in a template that are the input list of a pull-down
menu control. Today it started that whenever I enter a value in one of these
cells, Excel crashes (with the ususal error message and offer to report the
error).

Is anyone familiar with this error, and how I can solve or get around it?
 
I have found the solution! Before editing these cells, go into design mode
(click the pencil-triangle-ruler icon in the control toolbar). Toggle design
mode off when editing is completed.

You might benefit from deleting all files in your temp folder in this case.
