I created a worksheet and saved it in my doc it is saved
as book1.xls. It will not open in either word or excel,
my flag reads book1.xls:file format is not valid. I have
looked on the help pages and I do not have two versions of
excel. If anyone has any suggestions, please help! this
is the second time this has happened.

Could be a lot of reasons including a virus or even a
virus checker. However, here's a long link to get you
started:

http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?
Queryc=excel+2000+file+format+not+valid&Query=excel+2000+fi
le+format+not+valid&srch=sup&catalog=LCID%3D1033%26CDID%

3DON&Product=msall&KeywordType=ALL&Titles=false&numDays=&Ma
xResults=25&srchstep=3&InCC_hdn=True&querySource=gsfxSearch
_Query

Now before you go off and do all that, check that the file
cannot be opened on another machine or can it be opened in
the Excel Viewer.
