I have a new PC with Vista Home Premium. When I try to open Excel 2000 I get
an error message that says "The operating system is not currently configured
to run this application". What is the problem here? It runs fine on my
fiance's PC with Vista Home Basic.

Maybe your PC knows that you're using a pirated copy that you got from
your fiance? Or that you pirated yours to her?

If you only have the Excel spreadsheet to run then be aware that you have to
have Excel itself or an Excell viewer. See:

I copied Excel from her computer. That's probably the problem. I had a
distributor's version of Office but loaned it to my son and haven't gotten
the disk back yet. I'll just have to get the disk back and then load it that
way.

What is a "distributor's" version?

My nephew sells software and he gave me Windows XP Pro and Office 2000 both
have registration numbers that have no limits to the number of PCs they can
be loaded on.

Er.... No such thing.

I'll bet they were volume license media.

Probably. But not even a Volume License is "unlimited." And, if I
remember those old VLs correctly, people who use them also, as stated in
the EULA, have agreed to be audited by Microsoft (or their
representatives) at any time, to ensure license compliance.
