Everything's gone slow - I have no idea why...

Today I put my machine went to play some games on it... onthing wrong here,
installed quicktime to play a .mov file. Since installing quicktime my
framerate for all 3D programs has dropped dramatically, from an average of 80
to about 20. I've rebooted my machine to see if that would fix it, but it
didn't.

The only thing I've installed today is Quicktime, perhaps this caused my
problem? surely not... But right now, I can't imagine it being much else?

Has anyone else had this sort of problem, and if so, how did they fix it?
I'd hate to bear a grudge with Apple if this is a mere coincidience, or
caused by something else...

An easy way to find out is to uninstall quacktime then see what happens.
That thing can be hard to remove properly so you might want to head
over to the program homepage and read/consult the removal instructions.

I uninstalled quick time with the uninstaller provided, nothing changed.
Never occured to me to check its own documentation though :(

Hmmm... I don't have many ideas. No saying if quicktime was responsible
but it's awfully suspicious. Run dxdiag and see what it says, you might
be able to change some settings there.

Quicktime will load itself during startup, so it's an extra process and it
costs you some extra memory after your computer has started. But it should
not slow down your machine like you said.

Are you sure it's Quicktime? As you have said in another post, the problem
was not solved after uninstalling...

Nine times out of ten, when people ask me why their PC has gotten slow, it's
because of some kind of adware or malware. Have you scanned for virii
recently? Did you run a check for adware? If not, then I suggest you give
that a try first.

Best of luck,

Check that task manager and list the processes by memory useage and cpu
usage. See what processes are using up the most cpu and memory and
perhaps yuo will find your problem.
It can also be useful to add the I/O reads and I/O writes to the task
manager display and then you can see what processes are hitting the
hard drive the most.

Once you identify a process or want to find out what a process is you
can just google it or you can enter the process name into this website:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/starter/

Then you will see if there is a worm or virus or adware or spyware
causing the problem.
