Everyone says faster is better, but PC3200 ain't ..

PC3200 is supposed to scoot at 400MHz, but my Nvidia Force 2
motherboard balks. Could this be because the the memory is
CL3 .. or that the Nvidia chip set has problems with driving
2 double sided dimms ?? Or is there a bus problem between
AGP and mem.

In any case, I was very disappointed..

& your system setup?

Many people (myself included) run nForce2 boards at 400FSB or over with 2
sticks of RAM.

on nForce2 to get maximum performance you need to run your memory & cpu FSB
at the same speed.
If you run e.g. CPU @ 333 & memory at 400 you will get reduced
performance.

On my A7N8X PC3200 runs perfect at 197 FSB. That's with two different
brands of RAM. Corsair XMS and Elixar. Since I'm running a 2500+ @
3200+(almost) that's good enough for me.

Thanks for your comments, Buff and AJ

My setup is a FIC AU13 with a 2500 Barton and 2 sticks of PC3200 CL3
memory. I also couldn't quite get an Nvidia FX5200 card runing
on the AGP, so I fell back on an old 4X ASUS Gforce..

As I was saying, 200 FSB bombed (occasional but fatal errors).
I settle for 18O FSB and CPU clock, which seems to be holding
up.

A question I have, is whether I should be setting the AGP to something
else than 8X enable to make the FX work reliably ?
The bios lets me switch from "auto" to choosing a specific AGP clock,
from 50 to 100 Mhz. What do you think ?

Well, PC3200 is supposed to be able to run at _DDR400_ , which means a
frequency of 200MHz. Which is what I and lot's of others run with
nForce2, without problem. And, well yes, CL3 would be a bit slow I
think.

You want it locked at 66Mhz.
I have my RAM locked in sync with my CPU FSB. Until I did that it
crashed every few minutes. Auto on my board should have locked it but
is famous for failing. I only know how to lock them in sync on the
A7N8X.

Advanced Chipset Features-
System Performance-
User Define- Memory
Frequency-
100%.

That Locks the CPU FSB in sync with the RAM. Even if you run stable
without them locked, performance can be awful with them out of sync.
