My 'own' XP PC is connected via a router to a DSL modem.
The 'family' XP PC links in via a wireless network.

Unfortunately, anyone on the family PC can only see the internet if
they log in on my account. What do I need to do to permit the other
accounts to see the internet?

Thanks,
Vince.

It may be to do with their account types - I've come
across this with W2K (don't know if it's the same in XP)
As a restricted user, they couldn't access the internet,
but as a power user it was okay.(Bit of a pain really - I
wanted to give them internet access but not allow them to
make any changes to the pc, but couldn't be done on a
standalone machine)

Try: start/settings/control panel/user accounts/double
click on user name/group membership tab

Try it and see if it makes a diference.

Thanks for the suggestion.

There doesn't appear to be a 'group membership' tab in the user
accounts area. I did try promoting my daughter to the heady heights
of administrator but it I doesn't appear to make any difference.

The strange thing is, is that the main PC doesn't need to be turned on
for internet access to be available across the wireless network and
yet the secondary PC still has to by logged in with the 'correct'
account (i.e. mine) in order to get the internet access to work.

I'm guessing that something is filtering the access but can't
determine what.

you did look at the user account properties, not just
click on the user icon in control panel, didn't you? If
so, then I'm not sure where the group membership tab has
gone!!! The only other thing I can think of, is if the
internet connection itself has been configured in some
way to allow the connection "only for myself" and
therefore doesn't recognise anyone elses log on.

Try internet explorer/tools/connections and see if
anything relevant appears there. Otherwise take look at
your local area connection properties to see if there are
any user accounts / passwords set up anywhere.

I suspect it is a user/password issue - it's just a
matter of finding out where!!!!

Sorry i can't be any more help

Sorted. It turns out that IE on the other accounts was defaulting to
the old modem and waiting for it to make the internet connection.
