Hi, I was referred to this group by somebody on e-Ba-y who actually knew what
they were doing, and was hoping you could help a complete Windows XP idiot
with something really strange that has been going on with her computer.
Some time ago I heard a virus was spreading and tried to up my security. In
doing so I changed several options or whatever they are called on my
settings. Since then every time a new window pops up while I'm on the
internet, whenever I close it Internet Explorer gives me an error message and
shuts down. Does anyone know what is causing this, or how I can fix it?
Thanks

Not without looking at your computer and without the exact text of the
error message. Only you know what you did. If you look in the Internet
Options applet in Control Panel, you'll see that there is a button to
set security back to default. Do this.

If that doesn't help, then please go to this site to see what
information you need to include in your next newsgroup post:

Then come back with all pertinent details and someone will help you.

BTW, the best way to protect your machine against a virus or malware -
and there are *always* viruses and malware "spreading" - is to run a
current version antivirus (not earlier than 2005), keep the
subscription and therefore the virus definitions updated, and practice
"Safe Hex". Here are some links to help you stay safe:
