Every attachment crashes Outlook

Outlook crashes everytime I highlight any email with an
attachment. Even if I switch folders, if the first email
in the folder happens to have an attachment, Outlook
freezes and has to be forced to shut down.

These are all safe attachments and are expected, welcomed
and necessary.

I've tried repairing the installation a couple of time
and have run scanpst.exe but the problem remains.

Any ideas on how I might clean this up?

Run a full scan using a recently updated anti-virus program. Then disable
your anti-virus software (or, at least, its e-mail scan functions).

Try starting up in safe mode for Outlook ("outlook.exe /safe").

Check what plug-ins are installed (Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advanced).

What is the size of your .pst file? 2 GB (1.87 GB actually) is the max size
it can get.

It looks like you already tried the Inbox Repair Wizard (scanpst.exe) and
Detect and Repair. Ran chkdsk or scandisk (you omitted mentioning what
version of Windows you use).
