I'm clearing caches left and right and can't figure out why my computer does
this. On hubby's laptop, I can see that everything has published just fine.
But right now, on http://gbesgeo.org/2007_coin.htm I can only see one coin.
On http://gbesgeo.org/merchandise.htm I can't see any of the yellow arrows in
the right center column. A little while ago I couldn't see the coins on that
page either, but now I can. This happens in IE and Firefox. I realize it's
probably not a FP problem, but aside from clearing caches and temp files,
what else is there that i could be doing? I run Windows XP.

On the coin image...rename it without the space in the file name it will
appear as %20 - and don't use spaces in file or folder names.

On the arrow image issue it'd kinda the same thing..the left arrow is
DDxxxxx.gif and the right arrows are ddxxxxx.gif, Windows doesn't
differentiate capitalization in file names but unix does...soooo rename them
arrowright.gif and arrowleft.gif - or whatever your little heart desires as
long as they are different. Hint...stick to lower case, and no spaces or
other illegal characters.

Thanks Rob, I'll go in and clean that up. With 4 webs, heaven knows how many
other places I have done that.

Corey no drawing tools, I mostly try to work around FP gizmos. Word Art is
mature enough that doesn't generally cause any trouble. It's an adequate
shortcut alternative to going into my photo program to make my own banners.

Aaaaargh! I thought I had fixed it but it's still happening. Plus I made my
own small versions because in the html, it was showing up as "smalll" spelled
with 3 Ls!

Hey...you can never have enough L's.

VML, the basis behind WordArt, was never accepted as a web standard, and
only really works in Word, Publisher and PowerPoint. It does NOT work
on the web, except in Internet Explorer running on Windows. Other
browsers render a very poor quality .gif alternative, or nothing at all
- and something like a third of your potential customers use those other
browsers. (stats. from
http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2007/June/browser.php )

Word Art is not the problem here. Please don't hijack my post for your rant
that has nothing to do with the problem.

No one is "hijacking" your post. Ron's reply is a legitimate response to
this question and the other responses in this thread. Word Art IS a
problem. He's trying to tell you that if you use it you can expect many of
the visitors to your site to have issues with it - especially if they aren't
using Internet Explorer.

Now that's funny!

WordArt may be mature, but the only browser that can do anything with it is
IE. The best any other browser will get out it is a cheap GIF version. If
you really want to use it (or any of the other drawing crap) then either do
a screen shot of it and save it as an image.

How / what are you using to create http://gbesgeo.org/smallies.JPG

I am guessing that is the image you are having problems with. Usually when
someone says they have a problem and I see word art, I have to assume that it
is word art that is the problem unfortunately. Even though Word offers this
ability, it is not good to rely on it for webdesign

You seem to have bypassed some of FPs other mechanisms for helping users
create a website very quickly which is good. But I checked on two systems
with Firefox 1.5 and IE 7.0 (XP Pro) and Firefox 2.0 and IE .0 (Vista
Ultimate) and saw the smallies.JPG

You might try to delete this one from the server. And maybe (re)convert it
to a JPG and then publish it. Even though others can see it, I doubt the
image is corrupted.

We all were trying to be somewhat helpful because at some point, wordart
will cause problems. And no reason in trying to create more problems
especially right now

but if you think it is the browser you are using - there is an Internet
Exporer newsgroup and someone in there might have some other suggestions as
well on why the image will not display since it is really not a FP problem

nuttin' it's still me

| k, that was helpful. Who are you and what have you done with Rob?

Just for the interest sake, what proportion of people aren't using
Internet Explorer? The OP should target for 95% of the people currently
using IE to get maximum sales. The remaining 5% should have IE on their
system if they are using Windows OS or will find a means to browse the
web if they are desparate for the products!.

On my personal sites, my viewers are 79% IE; and on the sites I support, I
get calls nearly everyday from non IE users who are having issues just not
being able to access the site properly.

IMHO, the OP should target a w3c compliant site to asure the most sales. If
I would only have a casual interest in a product I am not going to buy it
from someone who makes me change browsers just to use the site.

Many people do not have Windows & IE; either they have an alternative OS or
they go to a public location which around here is all Netscape browsered

I feel like it was a hiajck because it had nothing to do with what I was
asking. It's just your pet peeve and it totally changed the subject.

"smallies" was the image I made to replace the ones that might have been
causing the problem. It didn't help.

I use Firefox but when I see a problem, I check in IE as well. It's
happening in both browsers on this computer, but not on the other. I still
haven't had a chance to check on any other machines. Moot point anyway.

The thing I like about FP is that you CAN bypass a lot of their presets. But
if it's going to cause issues, I may have to jump ship. I'd hate to do that
though because I don't have time for a learning curve right now. Who does,
really?

ok, you still don't get it....smallies.jpg and smallies.JPG are seen on a
unix/linux server as two different files. you must remain consistant in
naming your files and folders...stick to LOWER case everything (its the
safest).

and smallies is visable.

this is not an FP issue its a windows v. linux/unix issue in this case.

totally do not understand your last paragraph...sorry

hth
