Does anyone know if they make a cable with firewire connector on one end and USB on the other? I would like to be able to connect my video camera into my son's computer thru USB, since he doesn't have a firewire card and I don't think he has any more slots available for it.

No you can't. USB and FireWire are completely different technologies and
run at different speeds.

No, afraid not. The biggest difference between the
standards isn't the connector, it's the format. USB is
usually V1.1 and is 45mbits/sec. and is waaay to slow for
DV. Firewire is good for 450mbytes/sec, 100 times
faster. You might find an external adapter that converts
firewire to USB, or you might have to look for a "combo
card" that combines the function of an existing card with
firewire. You can find sound cards that have firewire
capability. If his sound is built-in, there may be other
options available. There won't be a "cable only"
solution, so I suggest you abandon looking for adapters
or a cable. You'll need a firewire plugin card of some
type, whether it's a plugin or combo card. Hope this
helps...
