I just found out that in windows XP, there is a hidden feature that
smooths out fonts. You can turn it on at
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypeInfo.mspx . Did anybody
else know about this and how?

Yes, I know of it. It's intended for LCD screens and shouldn't be used
with CRTs as you do take a performance hit with no noticeable
difference on a regular monitor. Myself, I don't even use it on my
notebook because the visual difference isn't that shocking, but the
performance difference sure is.

Look up "Clear Tweak". It's a 146K 1 File Wonder that makes it easy to
adjust Cleartype. With the fine control of ClearTweak, it's easy to adjust
Cleartype where it's pleasing on any monitor. I even use Cleartype on my
Sony Trinitron (glass) monitor.

Actually, I notice a big visual difference on my CRT. Text is much easier
to read.

I believe it was created for LCD displays, but like you, I find it works on
my CRT monitor too.

Not according to the site it isn't nor Spybot S&D 1.3 (updated today)
or Adware 6 (updated today)

My Spybot S&D 1.3 popped up with a warning when I tried to uninstall
ClearTweak:

Spybot S&D has encountered and terminated a process that is listed as
part of a malicious software:

ProcessID: 816
Filename: UNWISE.EXE
Found in: G:\Programfiler\ClearTweak\
Identified as: InternetWasher
