Is there any way to have a Windows 2000 server send an
email alert when critical event occurs? Thanks.

Event viewer can not be configured to send alerts. Performance Monitor can be
configured to send alerts when pre configured thresholds are passed and individual
services can be configured to run a program that may possibly be able to alert an
administrator. I believe that if you have alerts defined in Performance Monitor you
can also use startup and recovery/system failure to send an alert. --- Steve

You would need some 3rd party software that will do that.
On its own, Windows 2000 server will not do this. Not
sure if SMS will do this or not. Something like Whats Up
Gold is what I've used. Also CA's unicenter would record
and e-mail 'traps' and other errors on systems.
