In Control Panel I open the "Event Viewer" but the log files are
empty. Am I supposed to set something?

I was having trouble downloading different things (I can use ftp and
scp fine) via by browser (both IE and Netscape).

Please help.

What log files? mIf there's nothing to log, there's nothing in them.

Can't solve that one, I don't even know what trouble you were having.
Could be that every time you tried to download something your kid
sister pulled the plug on the computer.

Are they *all* empty?

Right click on each of them - set them all to 'overwrite as needed' and bump
up the max size - I'd do at least 4MB each.

By default there are entries for:

Application Log
Security Log
System Log

I checked the Properties of each of these events and they seem
correct. Though the following fields are empty under the Filter tab.

Event ID
User
Computer

Do these need to be filled?

I have also checked the various .evt files and they are all empty.

OK, my bad. I should have given more detail. I was trying to download
an application from download.com to try and also Messanger from
msn.com. The download dialog box comes up (for both, under both
Netscape and IE) but stays at 0%.

All 3 of the defaults ones are empty :o( They were set at 512Mb. I
have now bumped them to 4096 and will wait to see if this makes a
difference.
