Event Viewer Error

Has anyone seen this before?
Event Viewer Unable to complete the operation on "system
log". The interface is unknown.
This happens when trying to open event viewer.
 
Is the "Event Log" service listed in Control Panel|Administrative
Tools|Services? From a command prompt if you ;
net start
is "Event Log" among the listed?
