event reminders

I am trying to schedule home maintenance onto my computer with a reminder of
when they are due. Is this possible and how do I achieve it? I am running
windows XP home edition

Windows sitself does not come with such a program. The Task Scheduler
can be used for to automatically start a program, but it will not work
if the PC is shut down at the schedule time.
You may want to get a cheap third-party calendar program with a
reminder for that purpose.
 
Microsoft Works has a Calendar program that has reminder alarms. If Works was
included with your system you have the calendar program.
