I'm receiving the same two errors, in my Application Log, on a fresh install
approximately every six minutes as follows:

Source: Winlogon
Event ID: 1008
Description: The enterprise root certificate store could not be updated.
(0x8007006e) The system cannot open the
device or file specified.
..

Source: Winlogon
Event ID: 1009
Description: The NT Smartcard authentication certificate store could not be
updated. (0x8007006e) The system cannot open the
device or file specified.
..

Any ideas what these are? They don't appear to be causing any problems, but
it would be nice to know what they're all about.

the system is trying to update ur installed certificates to certificate
stores where they are usually stored . this problem is bcoz u might have
some certificates issued to u . otherwise this process can b done manually
in group policy->user configuration->security settings->public key
policies->right click enterprise trusts and click import

Thanx Will, but even though the first entry for the 1008 link applied, it did
not work. The link for the 1009 did not apply.
 
Thanx Harry, but using mmc, under the path you suggested, there are no
policies listed. I have one policy listed under the "computer" configuration
as opposed to the "user" configuration, but I only have the ability to
"export" not "import" and "enterprise trusts" isn't an option anywhere.
