Event Log stopped working

Hi everyone, My event log has stopped working for some
unknown reason, and is not logging anything, The service
states that it is running, but I can not restart it. Does
anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem.
This is a windows 2000 advance server SP4 box.

Delete all existing events in the log.
Have seen that before, probably due to corrupted log files.
