With a win2k server and 4 cd roms on ide, every now and again, usually at
start up or just after, here are 4 entries in event log with warning sign.
Txt is:-

RSM can not manage library CdRom0 (other three entries are 1 2 and 3). It
encountered an unspecified error. This can be casued by............failure to
communicate with the library.... or low resources

Please, can anyone give me a clue as to what may be going on.

CD Drives seem to work OK. Sytem is a 3.8ghz P4 2gb ram and plenty of disk
space.

Looked everywher but maybe missing the obvious!

When you view the logged events in Event Viewer (double-click them in the
right-hand pane) in the upper right corner, third button down is a copy to
clipboard, then you can paste in the body of a reply message.

Does this "server" use VIA 4in1 drivers? If so try downloading the latest
version and upgrading or reinstalling them.

Thanks for comments. Errorlog seems to show only on boot up
of machine. Aopen intel motherboard (995) P4 and fast stuff.

Can not trace event 17 anywhere, nor understand what is the database
(or where in the registry) it is looking. Have done registry/ini searches
for anything remotely similar. Particularly the "library CdRom0" (or 1/2/3)
reference (note Capitals).

Only clue. Did have a 4in1 internal cardreader attached that suddenly
could not be found . . hardware said there was an error installing USB
services
as could not write to table. Uninstalled hardware the nremoved device.
Odd, as worked fine for months and suspect something linked - would like to
delete all
usb device entries in registry and start again, but regedit will not let me
delete
the entries!

Any more clues? If nothing soon, will try editing registry in safe mode and
delete all usb device references in Enum etc and see what happens (after
backup reg of course!)
