Event log for Windows experience index

On my notebook the Windows experience index fails with a very generic error
message, which means I can't use Windows Aero and besides, I want to know
what the underlying issue is. The performance check runs all tests and at the
end tells me that it could not finish because a component, hardware, or
driver reported an error.

No details about which component or driver, not even which of the
performance test failed (video performance, disk performance, etc.). I
checked the Windows event logs, but the experience index doesn't seem to
create any logs there. There must be something to narrow down the problem.

Does anyone know if the experience index test creates a logfile anywhere else?

Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
Look under \windows\performance\winsat for a winsat.log file
You can also run winsat formal -v from the commandline, to get a verbose
log file.
