how is the best way to disable the W32Time Service?

Richard,

You should use this NG archive (http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.embedded?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8) as many of
the Event Log entries have been discussed here.

Also, use http://www.eventid.net if you know the Event ID you are interested in.

What is SideBySide and

"Primitive: SxS"
"Visual C++ Runtime Libraries (Side X Side)"
"Windows Side-By-Side Assemblies" components.
how is the best way to disable the W32Time Service?

Either disable the W32Service service or remove the "Time Service Core" component.
