This is a reprint of an earlier post. The event ID is 4011 and 3000 the
knowledge base has a cure but does not apply to this system.

Hello,

I assume you are referencing:
252695 DNS Server Generates Event 4011
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=252695

I have a few questions for you if you don't mind.

1.) What service pack level is the DNS server?
2.) Is this server in fact a global catalog server?
3.) Does netdiag show any other errors?
4.) Other than the error shown, is there any other problem with the DNS
server? Failed replication? Can't resolve names? etc.....

1. I have no idea what service pack it is you will have to tell me where to
find that info.
2. Again I have no idea.
3. I have downloaded that tool but as of yet been able to get it to work.
4. It resolves names there are no other errors in the event viewer. The only
thing I have noticed is that it takes considerably longer for a client to
find and open a web page.

Hello,

What service pack level is the DNS server?--Go to Start, Run and type in
"winver". This will give you the service pack level.

Please post an IPCONFIG /ALL from a client with your next reply post.

Does netdiag show any other errors?--Open a command prompt and navigate to
the location where you placed the netdiag utility. At the command prompt
type. "netdiag /v >c:\netdiag.txt" This should place the output into a
text file on the C drive for which you can reference. Please reference the
netdiag.txt and notate any errors.

Global Catalog--DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING, JUST LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING SETTING.
*****************
1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and
then click Active Directory Sites and Services.

2. Double-click Sites to expand it, expand Servers, and then click the
domain controller that you want to have the new global catalog role.

3. Double-click the domain controller to expand the server contents.

4. Right-click the NTDS Settings object that is listed below the
server, and then click Properties.

5.) Notate whether this is selected as a GC by the check box present. If
there is a check within the box, then it is a GC.

Hello,

These errors may also be caused if the server's time is not synchronized.

RESOLUTION
==========
To work around this behavior, specify a different Windows 2000-based Active
Directory-integrated DNS server on the DNS tab in the Advanced TCP/IP
Settings dialog box.
Or, try the following methods:

- Move the global catalog or the DNS server to a different domain
controller. NOTE: Before you move the Global Catalog functionality off
of the server, ensure that the new FSMO owner does not hold the
Infrastructure Master Role as well.
- Do not integrate the DNS server that is hosting the global catalog
with Active Directory.

I have an external time server set for the server. It is at Oklahoma state
University.

I have looked at this article but there is only this server here, for my
little home network. This server will after I get everything working right,
control all home functions. Meaning from lighting, music security, fire
protection, home theater, phone and garage doors. It does all this by voice
command. It also reads the email and news to you when requested. I have 60%
of this up and working. "Star Trek" I just want to make sure everything is
setup correctly before finally putting it online for this project.
