Windows 2000 Standard Server
Domain Controller
Service Pack 4

Every 3 days we get the following message:

The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master
\\server_name on the network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{585EFC..... The data is
the error.

This message is followed by:

The PrintQueue Container could not be found because the DNS Domain name could
not be retrieved.

All printing stops and the phone calls begin. The domain controller having
this issue is on a wan site and the master browser is on a different wan
site. The domain controller has 2 NICs, but one is disabled. Everything was
working fine for over 2 years. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have had Browser Issues for years with Windows 2000 and Windows 2003
and with cleanly installed DC’s. Basically you need to get a Master
Browser on the WAN.

I disabled my computer browser service on ALL my clients via Active
Directory. I setup 2 DC’s as Browsers. The rest of the servers I
edited the Registry in
HKLM-System-CurrentControlSet-Services-Browser-Parameters-MaintainServ
erList=NO.

I also setup a WINS server.

Seems to have worked for now.
