I have a network with Windows 2000 Server (5.00.2195,
Service Pack 3) on my DNS machine and Windows XP 2002,
Service Pack 1 on the workstations.

I periodically get the Event ID 8003 saying the master
browser has received a "server announcement" (my quotes)
from (one of the XP workstations) saying it is the master
browser for the domain on transport NetBT_Tcpip...

Why would an XP workstation be trying to usurp browser
control of the network? Or, is this just an informational
message similar to what I saw in another post?

(I checked the subnet masks and everything appears to be
ok. This doesn't happen continuosly and it varies as to
which workstation gives the report.)

If anyone has a definitve answer on this I would
appreciate a reply.

Thanks,

Bob

If your network is a domain, this shouldn't be happening.
In a workgroup, use tip 148 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at http://www.jsiinc.com
to prevent it.
