Hi,

Sometime I receive event id 7063 and when I check on the
knowledge base they say to check for update. I have all
the update install already. When I check my DNS the
Disable Recursion is uncheck and in the Forwarders I
don't have that IP Address that is listed below in the
error message. The only IP Address I have in my
Forwarders is my ISP. Does anyone know what is causing
this problem.

Thanks

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DNS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7063
Date: 6/28/2004
Time: 6:38:53 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
The DNS server is configured to forward to a non-
recursive DNS server at 193.0.0.193.

DNS servers in forwarders list MUST be configured to
process recursive queries.
Either
1) fix the forwarder (193.0.0.193) to allow recursion
- connect to it with DNS Manager
- bring up server properties
- open "Advanced" tab
- uncheck "Disable Recursion"
- click OK
OR
2) remove this forwarder from this servers forwarders
list
- DNS Manager
- bring up server properties
- open "Forwarders" tab
- remove (193.0.0.193) from list of forwarders
- click OK

*Sometimes* when your listed forwarder (your ISP's DNS server) is
unavailable Win 2k will use root hints, which is configured by default to
"do not use recursion".

I would check with your ISP to see if their DNS server failed around the
time you get these errors.
If so you might want to find a more reliable DNS server/ ISP.

You should verify that your forwarders do in fact support recursion and then
ignore these events if they continue. If it possible for this event to be
triggered by a false positive test result.

The event has been disabled in a Windows 2000 hotfix and in Windows 2003
SP1.

<snip>

Try 4.2.2.2 as a forwarder and see if that helps.
