Just noticed my earlier post had scrolled a few pages
back, so would post my follow up with the new info up here.

Alan, You suggested the clean spooler activity, which
sounds good. However, i am on windows 2000 pro, not 2003
server or XP. So it looks like that will not work.

Also, in addition to my previous message
[http://communities.microsoft.com/NewsGroups/previewFrame.a
sp?

ng&sMessageID=%253Cb84601c3b91b%2524b8792af0%
(e-mail address removed)%253E], I have found some more
information.

Looking over my event log, i have found the "normal"
service control manager event id 7031 spooler error.
However, i have never seen any documentation of this
happening with windows 2k pro, just with server. The
server seems to stop and create an error event 2 minutes
after it is started for a few times, then will not cause
any errors for hours, then go through another cycle of
event id's every 2 minutes. Seems quite odd. As far as I
know, i have erased all jobs, all drivers, and all
registry keys referring to my old printers. This is the
only event i have, so not quite sure what is causing it.
Thanks again.

cleanspl will work on Win2000 pro and server (actually the spooler
components are the same on both), it's the server service and Mac stuff that
was different as well as XP and Server 2003. The tool does not replace any
files, it just resets the registry.

however, i can't download the service tools pack because
it requires windows xp or 2k3 to install. I have searched
the net just for Cleanspl.exe, but have not found it yet.
any suggestions?

I am working to get this tool posted separately. It's my impression that
it can resolve many customers issues when there have been a number of driver
installs, uninstalls, reinstalls that has convoluted the spooler to the
point of not starting.

I attempted to attach the file but I get an error when I post.

Alan, if you get the file, start a new thread. You can
also send it to me via email @

of course, remove the no spam and education is
really .edu, so fix it as you may.

Thanks.

Hie Alan

I am having a similar problem. My Boss is using Win2000 Pro service pack 3.
I can't even install a new printer I get a resources error everytime I try
run add printer. The Printer Device is local. I also have 500mb (about) free
space on the C:\.

What should I do?
