I'm using Win XP Home with SP2 and all current updates. I also have a small
home network with one client computer (wireless) connection. I use
Trend-Micro PC-Cillin internet security. I use Bellsouth DSL for my ISP. I
had Norton Systems Works/Firewall, but have removed it, completely, at least
I think I have. I have installed UPHClean, but it still doesn't release my
UserProfile so that I am recognized as an administrator. I have created a new
UserProfile and tried to copy the ntuser.dat/ntuser.dat.log/ntuser.ini files
to new user but get an error message saying that the file(s) are in use by
another process. This is keeping me from being able to add or modify some
applications. I'm able to log on with the profile and able to navigate okay,
but just have limited abilities. I cannot, for example, install Shockwave
Player. I get the message that I do not have access to make system
configuration modifications. The Event ID: 7005 appears in the "System" log,
source: Service Control Manager with Details: incorrect function. Will
someone tell me how I can find out what process has my UserProfile locked
down and how to release it so that I have full control as administrator. I'm
the only user/owner and set up as hub for the home network. I should mention
that I didn't seem to have this problem until I set up the home network.
