Having been performing a scheduled backup at 12:00 AM on
my W2K Advanced Server. A scheduled stop of my anti-virus
scan is performed at 11:15 PM. For the past 4 nights
between 12:01 and 12:05 my server is performing an
unscheduled shutdown. The next morning the server has to
be rebooted and generates a event 6008 - The previous
system shutdown at 12:03:02 AM on 11/12/2003 was
unexpected. What could be causing my server to shut-down
abruptly?

Either your machine is blue screening or you are having hardware issues
that are causing a reset of the machine. Check and make sure that you are
not running a utility that detects hung applications or reboots the OS
(Like Compaq's ASR). If you do have one of these, then you will want to
disable it in order to get a memory dump and Stop code.

If you do not have ASR or some other system utility rebooting the machine,
I would look at hardware/bad ups being the possible culprit.
