Hello

I am receiving this error message on a windows 2000 server.
Event ID 5775 with this description.
Deregistration of the DNS record 'gc._msdcs.ymca.com. 600
IN A 192.168.0.2' failed with the following error:
DNS server unable to interpret format.

Here is some info about the network
There are 2 servers both are domain controllers (different
domains)

Server 192.168.0.1 (The server that has this entry)
Is running active directory

Server 192.168.0.2
This server is running DHCP for remote dial up users
and is running DNS services but Im not sure how its
configured

I wasn't invloved in the setup of these servers but now I
have to manage them

As far as I know something was setup with the DNS so that
users on the network would authenticate with the
192.168.0.1 server.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Jeremy

Who is this server pointing to for DNS? You will want to make sure that the server hosting the zone allows dynamic updates and has a copy of the zone in
question. Make sure the server doesn't point to any DNS servers that cannot access dynamic updates or find the AD zone.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston

Typically, this is the error you get if you point to your ISP's DNS on your
NIC TCP/IP properties. All machines must point to your internal DNS server
for your AD Domain. For internet access configure your DNS as per step 3 of
this KB article: 300202 - HOW TO Configure DNS for Internet Access in
Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300202&FR=1
