Scorch LINUX
When gaming, especially GTAIII and Warcraft III, but also on all games
or intense optical drive activity, I get this error:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: Cdrom
Event Category: None
Event ID: 51
Date: 4/8/2004
Time: 11:09:02 PM
User: N/A
Computer: *******
Description:
An error was detected on device \Device\CdRom1 during a paging
operation.
It is most commonly seen on my generic DVD-ROM, but also happens when
I try to use my TDK-VeloCD 52x CD-RW drive for the games.
System Hardware (as of right now, it will be changing in 4 days when
my new stuff comes in... to eliminate generic and up the system so I
can enjoy a nice LINUX installation)
-Via P4PB 400 FL Mainboard motherboard, with onboard 6 channel audio
and built in ethernet 100 port.
-Radeon 7000 64 Mb AGP 4x Vid card
-TDK 52x CD-RW
-Maddog (generic) DVD-ROM to be repleced by Artec DVD-ROM
-Intel 1.8G Celeron (to be replaced by P4 3.06 hyperthreaded CPU with
533FSB, which my motherboard supports)
-Maxtor DiamonPlus 80GB ATA133 IDE 7200 Harddrive (to be supplemented
by the same, with an 8mb buffer, when it gets here, which will house a
GenToo LINUX installation)
-Centon (generic) 512MB PC2700, 1 stick (2 be replaced by two sticks
of Crucial 512 MB PC 3200)
-Antec Tru-Power 450 dual fan power supply (to show its NOT a power
issue, i actually fried a 300W power supply as i had power issues)
I had a ZIP250, removed that, and still had errors after a reformat of
the harddrive (it would not let me uninstall the zip-drive software,
so I nuked it).
I cannot fix this error! I've swapped out and replaced every
componant listed above, save the CPU, and nothing has fixed it. I
hope that non-generic and a more powerful CPU might help.
One thing that did help was making the page file static, it eliminated
a few errors, but did not eliminate the problem. I have the problem
with both write cache enabled and disabled on my harddrive.
The system config looks like this: (device address given as
IDEEVICE)
0:0 Harddrive
0:1 EMPTY (former location of ZIP 250, to house current harrdrive when
I transfer installation to new drive and LINUX goes on this one)
1:0 TDK
1:1 DVD
note, my designation refers to 0 = primary IDE port/master, 1 =
secondary IDE/slave.
I would appreciate any help, after a year of troubleshooting, I quit.
Maybe the new hardware will fix it, but in case not, I figured I'd see
what was going on. Perhaps some of you out there have had this issue?
I hope so, not to be mean, but so that I'm not the only one.
